Returning an over-delivered mill product
🌾
Business Solutions. Simplified.

When a mill delivery ships more than the mill actually produced, the difference is covered from the Mill Over - Under location so the load can go out. If your customer then returns the excess, that location is now "repaid" automatically. Previously it stayed short until someone noticed and moved the stock back by hand.

Returning the excess

  1. Open the original delivery.
  2. Press Return.
  3. Enter the quantity coming back and validate it.

The repayment is posted for you. If more comes back than was covered, only the covered amount is repaid and the remainder stays in stock as ordinary returned goods.

Three things to know

Always use the Return button

A return keyed by hand as a plain Customers-to-Stock movement is not linked to the original delivery, so nothing is repaid. The shortfall stays invisible until someone reconciles the location.

The repayment has no transfer behind it

It appears in Stock Moves and in the Mill Over/Under Giveback column, but there is no transfer document to open. Stock leaving with no transfer against it is expected in this one case and is not an error.

Do not change where returns are delivered to

Each Returns operation type must keep landing in its own warehouse's Stock location. Point it at a quality or returns bay instead and the returned goods sit in the bay while the repayment draws from Stock, which can show as negative until the goods are put away. It corrects itself, but it looks alarming on a stock report.
